Our History
Vital Link was founded in 1989 in response to a need indicated by national studies that America’s high school graduates must strengthen their job skills to successfully compete in a global economy. To help students better prepare for the workforce, Vital Link developed curriculum that provides students with a way to access and identify their current soft skills and achievements through personal evaluation and activities.
In 2004, Career Exploration Programs were developed to introduce students to real-world activities and professional role models, taking students out of the classroom and bringing them into the business world. The Programs assist students to link their education to career pathways by providing a unique opportunity and to observe professionals in action and to obtain hands-on experience in a range of industries. Over 4,500 students participate in these programs annually.
Vital Link took a leadership role in the facilitation of regional support services to Career Technical Education instructors at the high school, Regional Occupational Program and Community College level. Through Vital Link’s efforts, resources and information from the business community are brought to the education community to keep curriculum and classroom material current and relevant.
Goals
Vital Link moving Forward
As Vital Link enters its 23rd year of service, we offer program materials that include new and relevant industry areas such as Robotics, Medical Technology and GIS Technology. In addition to the Career Exploration Programs, Vital Link offers Interactive Mobile Exhibits that feature hands-on exhibits and activities in the high demand fields of Sustainable Energy, Green Careers and Medical Careers. A companion curriculum connects the activities and demonstrations to a career exploration opportunity to help students to make a connection to their career options. These exhibits are available to schools and after-school programs at their facilities for career fairs and special classroom projects.
