Educator Development
Vital Link provides many opportunities for educator development through Advisory Boards, Externships, Career Educator Breakfasts, Professional Learning Communities and Professional Development Workshops.
Advisory Board Facilitation
Vital Link facilitates regional Advisory Boards in Orange County for High School, ROP and Community Colleges to create the link between Career Technical Educators and business professionals. The meetings are a source of current industry information that can be brought into classrooms. Industry professionals who participate in the meetings provide information on the skills needed, industry trends, labor statistics and workforce demand, as well as a review of required competencies. Instructors work together to align courses with the ROPs, High Schools, and Community Colleges. Each year, educators and their students benefit from these Advisory Board meetings. Some of the industries covered are: Performing Arts, Information Technology, Digital Media Arts, Medical Front and Back Office, Public Safety and Culinary Arts.

Externships
As part of an educator’s development, Vital Link facilitates industry externships. Vital Link connects educators with local businesses for on-site tours and interviews to learn about their current industry trends and workforce needs. Based on the information gathered from the externship, educators develop classroom activities that bring industry relevance to their students.

Educator Breakfast
Each Fall Vital Link holds a Career Educator Breakfast for career specialists, counselors and administrators to share the upcoming Vital Link program schedule, launch new programs and introduce the educators to our new business partners.

Professional Learning Communities
Vital Link is assisting in the development of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) for Career Technical Education (CTE) educators in Orange County. These PLCs serve as a way CTE educators can work together across districts to answer three questions:
- What do students need to know?
- How do we know that they know it?
- What do we do if they don’t know it?
Using these three questions as their foundation, CTE teachers can effectively work together to enhance the overall progress and increase the success of their students.

Professional Learning Communities
Periodically Vital Link provides Professional Development Workshops for Career Technical Education instructors. Workshop subjects have ranged from teaching using customer service skills using the Fish! Philosophy to pre-engineering robotics training.
